Color Therapy

Tins3

It's dreary and gloomy here today, so I thought a shot of color from these vintage tins would be refreshing. I really enjoy the graphics on vintage tins, especially candy tins. I'm only now beginning my collection, but I love the thought of gathering a bunch and hanging the lids in a cluster on the wall. Hmm...now that's a good rainy day project...

Red, White, and Thrifty

Clipon3
I've been on a red and white kick lately. I used to favor pastels almost exclusively, but I love the way red and white combine with aqua, robin's egg blue, or turquoise. Now I can't get enough of it. Anyway, here are some vintage goodies I found over the weekend that just happen to be those same peppy colors, including a mica church (to round out my mica village), a chubby-cheeked Santa mug, a sweet blue creamer, and three pairs of fab clip-on earrings. All in all, a cheery bunch.

Just Add Pumps

Apronblog2
I have a confession. I'm not much of a cook. Don't get me wrong, I do cook. But I don't love to cook. What I love to do is play the hostess. I love having guests over to the house, planning a menu, decorating, deciding on table linens, and making party favors. This is my cooking. That's why when I saw this colorful, full-skirted apron, I knew it was perfect for planning and hosting bright holiday parties.

Then I saw this adorable napkin holder at an antique shop. Though the paint's a bit chipped, the sentiment remains as true as ever.

Happy hosting, everyone!

Blank Canvas

Trimbrighter
I know it's unpopular, but for me there's nothing more crisp and cool than white walls. I love how the window light bounces off of them. I love the way bright colors pop against them. I can't imagine our house without them. Oh, and look at the cute vintage trim I found! I think I'll try to gussy up a blank canvas of my own with all of the notions I've been lucky enough to find lately...

Getaway

We went out of town over the weekend, and I came back with some buttons...

...and some bows.

I also found a bunch of vintage sewing supplies, fabric, and notions that I look forward to showing you and using in some of my upcoming projects. I hope everyone had a nice weekend!

Lost Sheep?

Lilbopeepblue2
Look at this darling vintage Little Bo-Peep storybook I found! This Rand McNally Junior Elf book was written by Helen Wing and illustrated by Mary Jane Chase.
Lilbopeepgreen6
I adore the illustrations and colors in this book, with the lost sheep going shopping for hats and handbags, visiting a beauty parlor to have their hoofs painted pink and their curls washed and styled, and winning a beauty contest in the end! What a day!
Lilbopeepblue4
Each page is filled with great humor and adorable drawings. There's even a picture of sheep eating pancakes and syrup in a tea room! Does it get any cuter?

Have a good weekend, everyone! Thanks for reading!

XOXO,
Ellie

P.S. I'll have even more to show you next week. Stay tuned!

Rainy Day

Umbrella6
It rained all day yesterday. All day. Nevertheless, the day was punctuated with many bright spots. Blanket stiching in candy colors of pink, red, and aqua thread. Making warm toasted cheese sandwiches and tomato soup with my hubby (the sweetest). Eating dark chocolate wafers while watching the Gilmore Girls. All in all, a good day.

Great and Small

We spent a lovely weekend visiting local farms and autumn festivals and, after cooing over the cows, goats, and puppies, I got to thinking about the sweet little creatures lurking around our household. Of course, ours happen to be constructed from ceramic and paint, but they do their jobs lovingly, just the same.

Look at this darling little Lefton covered sugar bowl. Pretty sweet, right?

And how about this adorable cow family, complete with creamer, salt, and pepper shakers!

I'm always on the lookout for characters like these, and I have a hard time not picking them up at antique stores, flea markets, and yard sales. I love the charm they bring to living spaces. Like a breath of fresh autumn air.

Eye Candy

Candybuttonsremaster

Sometimes you find inspiration on stiff white paper in sweet, candy-filled wrappers.

And sometimes you find it in scratched candy tins from your grandmother's attic.

Where do you find inspiration?

Greetings!

Thanks for visiting! I created Picnic by Ellie out of love for vintage candy-colored living and handmade details. I relish bountiful springtime and endless summer. I adore hammocks and calico. I glow at charm bracelets and fireflies. Sunbleached cotton. Cool air. Breeze tickling plaid picnic blankets. But that's enough about me. Stop by often to look at my handmade items and vintage finds. I look forward to sharing all of it with you!

XOXO,
Ellie
