Button Candy

Buttoncardsbright
I was going through my button stash over the weekend and decided that I had more buttons than I will ever use. So, I thought I would put a few of my favorites onto cards and offer them in the shop, just for fun. Don't they look like candy? I hope all of you had a wonderful, relaxing weekend. Happy Tuesday!

Thinking and Pinking

Pinkingnew

I love pinking shears. If I had my way, I'd pink anything in sight. When I was little, I even asked my mother to pink my bangs. Sadly, she didn't, but that would've rocked. I was so pleased when my mother-in-law gave me these shears belonging to her mother. They were still in the box, with "May 29, 1963" written in pencil on the side. They look to never have been used and cut beautifully. I love bits of family history like this. They lend character and somehow bring you closer to those you never knew.

I still owe you pictures from last week's yard sale adventures. I'm headed to a few more sales tomorrow, so I hope to have plenty to show you next week. Please check back! Have a lovely weekend, everyone!

Early Birds, Please!

Lgbluebirdtotebrightest_1
Please meet Elliebird. After shopping at the huge flea market and toting around plastic bag after plastic bag, I realized I needed a sweet tote to store all of my smalls. So, I went to work on my computer and came up with Elliebird. A canvas tote and an iron-on transfer later, the Early Bird Tote was born. She'll be great for shopping at flea markets/yard sales/estate sales. I've made a few of these, and I will be listing them on Etsy in a little while, along with these vintage flower pins.

And there will be a few other goodies in the days to come. If you'd like, stop by and take a peek! Have a great day, everyone!

Think Spring!

Patternsnewnewbright_1
Ooooh, it's c-c-c-c-c-cold and blustery here today, and all I can think about is springtime. Of course. I know, I shouldn't complain. We haven't even had our first real snowfall yet. But I am definitely ready for spring. So, today I've decided to sit in the studio and work on some springtime projects. Nothing as cute as these little girl dresses, but I'll see what I can do. So, if anyone needs me, that's where I'll be. Springtime, here we come!

I also wanted to thank you again for your sweet comments and continued support. Your kind words have meant so much to me. I hope all of you have a great weekend. Stay warm!

Brown Paper Packages

Parcel4bright

I finally got my act together and began wrapping gifts last night. I decided to take a cue from Julie and do a brown paper/string combination, with a few of my candy colors added here and there. I hope the recipients like them. It sort of reminds me of a Christmas the Grinch would steal, but that's okay.

I love, love, love wrapping gifts. Love it. This is very different from my husband, who has a patented three-step process. This is how it goes, as I've overheard it from the next room: crinkle, crinkle, crinkle; big huffy sigh; then tape. Every time. And, in case of wrapping emergencies, I hear, "Honey, do we have any gift bags?" So cute...

My Fair Isle

Fairislewreath4

For months, I've been on the lookout for the perfect fair isle sweater. The right colors. The right pattern. The right number of buttons. Just right. Even though I've seen many beautiful examples, I just can't commit to one. So, during one of my fits of craftiness this wreath took a decidedly fair isle-esque turn. As ever, it is a work in progress. Now, if I could only find a sweater to go with it...

I hope everyone is having a lovely holiday weekend!

Feeling Crafty

With the holidays just around the corner, I've been feeling just that. Crafty. Here are a few of my works in progress:
Collagenew
Made from a 6" square canvas and vintage trims (most from my grandmother's sewing box). This one reminds me of a preppy welcome mat.
Stockings
Christmas party favors, ready to be filled with cocoa mix and candy sticks and embellished with red and white striped string.

Feel free to share pictures of some holiday projects you're working on. I'd love to see them! Now, back to my craft table!

Greetings!

Thanks for visiting! I created Picnic by Ellie out of love for vintage candy-colored living and handmade details. I relish bountiful springtime and endless summer. I adore hammocks and calico. I glow at charm bracelets and fireflies. Sunbleached cotton. Cool air. Breeze tickling plaid picnic blankets. But that's enough about me. Stop by often to look at my handmade items and vintage finds. I look forward to sharing all of it with you!

XOXO,
Ellie
